Crossing Over to Scouts BSA

Arrow of Light (5th grade) is the last rank in Cub Scouting. In the spring, our AOL scouts “cross over” to a Scouts BSA troop in a bridge ceremony — one of the most meaningful moments in a scout’s Cub Scout experience.

Our goal is for every scout to continue in Scouting — full stop. Two troops meet right here at Matthews United Methodist Church and are a natural next step:

• Troop 39 (boys)
• Troop 139 (girls)

But crossing over to Troop 39 or 139 specifically isn’t required — scouts are always welcome at whichever troop is the right fit for them and their family.

What to Expect

• AOL scouts typically attend at least one troop meeting with their prospective troop before crossing over, as part of the Arrow of Light rank requirements.
• The Crossover Ceremony happens at a spring Pack Meeting — Webelos and AOL den leaders coordinate the details with the Cubmaster.
• The Committee Chair coordinates timing and communication with both troops on the receiving side.
