The Cub Scout Motto: Do Your Best!

CUBBY NOTES

January 31, 2023

Den Meeting:
MUMC Commons at 6:30 pm.

(Lions do not meet this week.)

CUBMASTER NOTES

Tonight we have a Den Meetings  inside the MUMC Commons at 6:30 pm. For those interested in attending, there will be a Scoutbook Training session in the Commons while the scouts are in their Den meetings.

AOL's – Read your Den Notes about important dates coming up.

Thank you to everyone who came out last Saturday for Scouting for Food. This Saturday, February 4th at 9:00 is food pick up. Please do not pick up the food early – all printed materials and social media platforms say to have the food outside by 9 am.

February 14th Pack Meeting is our Blue & Gold celebration. Each year we celebrate scouting with a cake baking contest. The theme  for cakes this year is "Celebrating Your Rank". A tiger scout, for example, would make a Tiger rank themed cake. There will be a variety of awards given for your efforts. Much like pinewood derby, scouts should make the cake, not the parents!! Please see below for more information on Blue & Gold.

Also, we need volunteers for the Pinewood Derby workshop on February 4th and for race day on February 25th. Please see the Sign Up Genius below if you can volunteer!

SUPER TRIP 2023

Our Super Trip this year will be at the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC and will take place on March 10th – 11th. This will be an overnight trip starting at 6pm on Friday, March 10th and then participants will have access to the zoo and garden the next day.

Our pack will be sleeping inside in the Colonial Life Discovery Center and the zoo will provide meals and activities.

The trip can only accommodate 80 participants so sign up early. The only way to ensure your slot is if you make the $75 payment after you sign up (see Sign Up Genius below).

Please read the description in the Sign Up Genius and ask questions before signing up. The fee is $75 per participant and refunds are not possible. The DEADLINE to sign up is February 14th.  To sign up, click HERE!

Blue & Gold

We will be celebrating Scouting Anniversary Week in February with a "birthday party" called the Blue and Gold during February 14th Pack Meeting.  Scouts are encouraged to make a cake, decorate it, and bring it in for the Pack to enjoy! There will be prizes (see RULES below)!

Since the cakes will be shared with everyone PLEASE keep in mind that we do have a tree nut allergy in our pack and ask that none of the cakes or cake ingredients contain tree nuts.

Rules:
 1) Theme =
 Decorate for your Rank/Den!
 2) Edible! That means everything except the tray it sits on. Whatever you build or use to decorate must be edible. Examples: Toothpicks NOT edible, pretzel sticks ARE edible. Matchbox cars and Legos are NOT edible, candy and chocolate ARE edible.
 3) Scout Made!  An adult may help with the oven, appliances, sharp knives, etc. as needed. However, please allow the Scout to do as much as possible.
 4) No Fridge/Freezer items! The cakes will have to sit out at the Pack meeting for a while. Do NOT make the cake out of ice cream or other melting foods unless you are bringing a mop or a case of paper towels and plan to clean up the puddle.
 5) Mixes or homemade! Go ahead, rely on the box if needed. But, NO STORE BOUGHT CAKES! Mixing is the plan!
 6) Scouts clean up the kitchen! All scouts are old enough to load a dishwasher or wash items by hand. Just bring a stool or chair to the sink if needed. Wipe down those counters, too.
 7) Bring it on a disposable tray like foil wrapped cardboard to aide in cleanup or you may be there a while and/or have to take leftovers home.  Although this last is not a requirement, it is highly recommended.

PINEWOOD DERBY

The Pinewood Derby race is coming up on February 25. Each scout gets a derby car kit and additional kits can be purchased for family members for $5 each.

Building Workshop

Please use this signup genius link if you're available to help with Pinewood derby workshop on 2/4, pre Race day setup on 2/24 or race day registration or clean up on 2/25. Pizza is provided for the 2/24 volunteers.

We will meet in the parking lot closest to the church building common area where we normally meet and walk the greenway to Squirrel Lake Park. A shuttle will be available to bring us back to the church.

Make sure to bring your Cub Scout 6 essentials!

https://cubscoutideas.com/4609/cub-scout-six-essentials-for-hiking/

Wolves
The Wolves will be making Valentines Cards for people in our community nursing homes.  Bring any art supplies you like to use for making cards.  We will have card stock and other supplies available for use too.
