The Cub Scout Motto: Do Your Best!

CUBBY NOTES

October 4, 2022

Den meetings tonight –
6:30 pm inside the MUMC Commons.

(Fieldtrips for Lions, Tigers, Wolves)

CUBMASTER NOTES

Tonight are Den Meetings at MUMC inside the Commons at 6:30 pm.

Fieldtrips Tonight:
Lions and Tigers will meet on the football field behind Crestdale Middle School at 5:30pm.
Wolves will meet at the Matthews Fire Station on Trade Street at 6:30pm.

All others will meet in the MUMC commons to go over a few announcements and talk about our popcorn fundraiser before separating into dens.

About the Cub O'Ree Camping Trip:

The sign up for O'Ree is available. I strongly encourage you to come join us for this event at Belk Scout Camp. These are the trips you'll remember with your scout and it's a great and safe place to get some camping experience.

Please see below for a packing list and a rough schedule for the weekend.

This is a family friendly event so feel free to bring the whole clan. Either this week or next, I will be available for you to ask any questions about what to bring, what the weekend is like etc. Please let me know if you have any questions. You can also speak to any of your den leaders or the committee chairs as well if you prefer. Remember to keep your packing simple. While you can pull up and drop off your gear, there is a short walk to the campsite.

Thanks,
Mike

CUB O'REE CAMP OUT

Cub O'Ree Camp out will be October 14-16th at Belk Scout Camp in Midland, NC. Activities will include Archery, BB guns, fishing, ga ga ball, bmx bikes, climbing wall and more! This is a great first camping trip for new families. The facilities are nice, the camp sites are big and it's a great time. These are the types of events you'll remember when you look back on your time in scouting. We highly encourage you to attend.

The cost is $15. Please make sure we have medical forms A/B in hand for all attending as well as adults having completed YPT (Youth Protection Training). Please eat before arriving on Friday evening. The Pack will take care of Saturday breakfast, lunch, dinner as well as Sunday breakfast.

Please let us know EARLY if you have any special dietary requirements.

If you have ANY questions about O'Ree, please reach out to our Cubmaster Mike or Mike HIllesheim, who is our coordinator for this year.  All of our experienced families and leaders have been there plenty of times so feel free to ask questions.

Please make sure to leave us your tee shirt sizes in the comments for all attendees.

POPCORN SHOW & SELL

Great job everyone selling popcorn. Keep up the good work!

There are more shifts available for the following day:
October 8th

**Note: The Carolina Beer Temple Show and Sells are for Webelos ONLY!**

To sign up for a show and sell popcorn slot click HERE.

A parent is required to be there with their scout. This is not a drop off/pick up event. Please have your scout dressed in their pack uniform.

POPCORN FUNDRAISER

This fundraiser is great as each scout earns a portion of the sales to be applied against their scouting dues, super trip, etc.

Trail's End (The Popcorn…people) has an App that you can download to set up a user profile for you as the parent on behalf of your scout.  You can set up their profile to include a photo, quick message about their den and pack.

The benefit of having the profile setup, is that it makes it super easy for you to send an email/text to friends, family, etc via their “auto share” feature. “Auto share” lets you send a prefab message out to people that you select that are listed in your contacts on the phone.  I sent out one a few days ago to about 15 friends and family, and it resulted in over $250 of direct on-line sales, which pretty much covered the bulk of the popcorn sales goal in less than 5 minutes of activity on my part.

Please download the Trail's End app and set up your/your scout’s profile on the App sometime soon.  Use the “auto share” feature to get a jump on the selling season.

Link to Trail's End website HERE.

Here are a few detail they may ask for:
Mecklenburg County Council, Etowah district, Pack 214.  It may ask for your scout’s scouting ID number, you can grab this on the Scoutbook page (once you have set it up) by using the link below:

Den Leader Notes

Don’t forget a chair/blanket, a healthy snack to share, and the cub scout 6 essentials!

Tigers
Lions & Tigers will be meeting at the football field behind Crestdale Middle School at 5:30 in place of our regular meeting.

Don’t forget a chair/blanket, a healthy snack to share, and the cub scout 6 essentials!

Wolves
Wolves will meet at the Matthews FD (236 south trade) at 6:30 instead of MUMC. Our tour is scheduled to begin at 6:30, so make every attempt to be prompt. Do not park in front of the fire station. There should be parking spots adjacent to the station or across the street at the elementary school. Please remember to bring your thank you notes for service members that we will meet during the tour of the fire station.

Bears
The Bears are finishing up Baloo the Builder by painting the bird houses and adding cord grips to the walking sticks. Scouts should wear a shirt that may get paint spots. We will also review camping essentials. Lastly, parents need to get the Bears a pocket knife for the 10/18 meeting and plan to stay for the whole meeting.

Web 1s
Webelos will heading to the campfire area of the Eagles Nest after the open of then meeting to learn about camp fire safety and cook their dinners outside over an open flame.

AOLs

The AOLs will be working on their outdoor adventure by planning for what they need to bring for O’Ree and setting up their tents and a tarp.  They’ll need to bring a tent with them to the meeting.
