The Cub Scout Motto: Do Your Best!

CUBBY NOTES

February 14, 2023

Pack Meeting:
Eagle's Nest at 6:30 pm.

(Lions Meet!)

CUBMASTER NOTES

Tonight is our Pack Meeting and Blue & Gold Celebration inside the Eagle's Nest at 6:30 pm. Lions will meet tonight.

Important items in the newsletter this week:

  • Tonight's Pack Meeting is our Blue & Gold celebration. Bring your cake (See Blue & Gold section below).
  • Payment is due tonight for Super Trip (checks payable to Pack 214).
  • We need volunteers for the Pinewood Derby Set Up and Race Day.
  • Keep in mind: Recharter dues of $100 are coming up in March.

SUPER TRIP 2023

Tonight is the Deadline to sign up and pay for Super Trip. You must turn in all paperwork and have medical forms turned into Scouts in order to go.

Our Super Trip this year will be at the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC and will take place on March 10th – 11th. This will be an overnight trip starting at 6pm on Friday, March 10th and then participants will have access to the zoo and garden the next day.

Our pack will be sleeping inside in the Colonial Life Discovery Center and the zoo will provide meals and activities.

The fee is $75 per participant and refunds are not possible. The DEADLINE to sign up is February 14th.  To sign up, click HERE!

Blue & Gold 9×9 Cake

We will be celebrating Scouting Anniversary Week tonight, February 14th, with a "birthday party" called the Blue and Gold.  Scouts are encouraged to make a 9 x 9 cake, decorate it, and bring it in for the Pack to enjoy! There will be prizes (see RULES below)!

Since the cakes will be shared with everyone PLEASE keep in mind that we do have a tree nut allergy in our pack and ask that none of the cakes or cake ingredients contain tree nuts.

Rules:
 1) Theme =
 Decorate for your Rank/Den!
 2) Edible! That means everything except the tray it sits on. Whatever you build or use to decorate must be edible. Examples: Toothpicks NOT edible, pretzel sticks ARE edible. Matchbox cars and Legos are NOT edible, candy and chocolate ARE edible.
 3) Scout Made!  An adult may help with the oven, appliances, sharp knives, etc. as needed. However, please allow the Scout to do as much as possible.
 4) No Fridge/Freezer items! The cakes will have to sit out at the Pack meeting for a while. Do NOT make the cake out of ice cream or other melting foods unless you are bringing a mop or a case of paper towels and plan to clean up the puddle.
 5) Mixes or homemade! Go ahead, rely on the box if needed. But, NO STORE BOUGHT CAKES! Mixing is the plan!
 6) Scouts clean up the kitchen! All scouts are old enough to load a dishwasher or wash items by hand. Just bring a stool or chair to the sink if needed. Wipe down those counters, too.
 7) Bring it on a disposable tray like foil wrapped cardboard to aide in cleanup or you may be there a while and/or have to take leftovers home.  Although this last is not a requirement, it is highly recommended.

PINEWOOD DERBY

The Pinewood Derby race is coming up on February 25. Each scout gets a derby car kit and additional kits can be purchased for family members for $5 each.

RACE CATEGORIES

Rank Class – Scouts will first race against their Rank. The first and second place cars in each Rank are eligible to move on to the Finals. Winners from this Rank Class race will receive a trophy.

Open Class – A race open to siblings, relatives, den chiefs, and den leaders and will be held after the Rank Class races. Winners from this race will receive a trophy or ribbon. They do not move on to the finals.

Outlaw Class – a race open to ADULTS (not scouts) that will be held after the Rank Class races. Winners from this race will receive a trophy or ribbon. They do not move on to the Finals.

CAMP CARDS

Camp Cards are a great way for your scout to earn money to pay for trips, camps, and Recharter fees.  Pick up as many cards as you think you can sell. Each card is $10. Bring the proceeds to the Pack and your scout's Scoutbook account will get $5 for each card sold. The council gets the other $5. This is a no risk fundraiser; just return any cards that you do not sell. You can also sign up to sell online. There is a feature where people can purchase cards to donate to first responders. You must create an account to sell online: scoutingtracker.com.

Talk to your Committee Chair if you have questions and to pick up some cards.

RECHARTER DUES

Recharter is almost here!

Recharter is when the Pack renews our membership as well as each of our scouts and leaders with the BSA for the 2023/24 year. Each scout who wishes to return next year pays $100 and we take care of registering your scout. Recharter fees are due by the 3/14 Pack meeting without exception. If you choose not to recharter we cannot renew your scout and you're subject to $165 new scout rate next year if you decide to return. Once the money is paid to the BSA we cannot issue a refund if you change your mind as the money is already gone from our account.

This does not apply to current AOL scouts who will pay the Troop for next year.

Please pay cash or check (payable to Pack 214). If you would like to use funds from you Scoutbook balance, please let the Committee Chairs know.
