The Cub Scout Motto: Do Your Best!

CUBBY NOTES

February 28, 2023

Den Meetings:
MUMC Commons at 6:30 pm.

Lions DO NOT meet!

CUBMASTER NOTES

Thank you to all of the Pack 214 Families who came out on Saturday for our Pinewood Derby Race Day! We had a blast watching all of the excitement and enthusiasm.

We couldn't have done it without all of the volunteers who came out Friday evening and all day Saturday – especially Mr. Russell, our Pinewood Derby Coordinator. THANK YOU!

RECHARTER DUES

Recharter is almost here!

Recharter is when the Pack renews our membership as well as each of our scouts and leaders with the BSA for the 2023/24 year. Each scout who wishes to return next year pays $100 and we take care of registering your scout.

Recharter fees are due by the 3/14 Pack meeting without exception.**
If you choose not to recharter we cannot renew your scout and you will be subject to $165 new scout rate next year if you decide to return.

Once the money is paid to the BSA we cannot issue a refund if you change your mind as the money is already gone from our account.

This does not apply to current AOL scouts who will pay the Troop for next year.

NOTE: Selling Camp Cards is a great way to pay for your Recharter Dues – See below for details.

Please pay cash or check (payable to Pack 214). If you would like to use funds from you Scoutbook balance, please let the Committee Chairs know.

(**Financial assistance is available – please talk to your Committee Chair)

CAMP CARDS

Camp Cards are a great way for your scout to earn money to pay for trips, camps, and Recharter fees.  Pick up as many cards as you think you can sell. Each card is $10. Bring the proceeds to the Pack and your scout's Scoutbook account will get $5 for each card sold. The council gets the other $5.

This is a no risk fundraiser; just return any cards that you do not sell. You can also sign up to sell online. There is a feature where people can purchase cards to donate to first responders. You must create an account to sell online: scoutingtracker.com.

Talk to your Committee Chair if you have questions and to pick up some cards.

COUNCIL PINEWOOD DERBY

Cub Scouts, start your engines!  The Council Pinewood Derby is BACK!

On Saturday morning, March 18th, Mecklenburg County Council is partnering with UNCC's William States Lee College of Engineering for this year's area-wide race!  Racing will be held in the lobby of UNCC's "EPIC" building off North Tryon and a short walk from JW Clay Light Rail Station!

All active Cub Scouts are eligible to enter, whether they have raced in their Pack's derby or not.  Families will be treated to the excitement of the classic Cub Scout competition… bring your Scout Spirit!   Additionally, folks from the College of Engineering will offer tours and a peek at some of the work from their Motorsports shop… they have real race cars students work on!

STEM is a big part of the Derby and UNCC is excited to showcase the opportunities they offer… Only the top-engineered derby cars will have a shot at racing glory!  Who knows, maybe today's Cub will be tomorrow's NASCAR Pit Crew Chief!

The Official Schedule will be published the first week of March, including start times for the races.

Sign up on-line at the link below by March 12th.

Cost to register is $5, includes 2023 Council Pinewood Derby Patch.

Register: MCC Pinewood Derby | Mecklenburg County Council (mccscouting.org)

Den Leader Notes

Lions
Lions do not meet tonight.

We do not meet again until March 7th but please keep an eye on your email for things Lions need to be working on at home.

Tigers
The Tigers will be working on the Tigers in the Wild adventure this week

Wolves
The wolves are going to begin the collections and hobbies adventure. Each scout should bring a couple of items from a collection they have and come ready to share information on their collection – how they started the collection, what interests them about the collection, how many of the items they currently have, etc.

Bears
All that building and racing has worked up our appetites. Time to pull into Pit Row to refuel.  What would you make to celebrate? Bring your favorite breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack recipes to put into Da Bears Pit Stop Cookbook. Mr. Petty will be going over how to use a camp stove and cooking safety. Weather permitting, we will cook hotdogs on the stove and Chase them down with healthy snacks and “roadkill” s’mores!

Web 1s
Webelo 1s will be working on Protect Yourself rules and cyber chip.

 AOLs
2/28 – Deadline for Troop 39 paperwork.

3/7 – Miniature Golf and Ice Cream at Trails Dynasty in Indian Trail

3/14 – Please make sure you have a complete AOL uniform including green pants, hat and neckerchief prior to our AOL ceremony.
