Safety on the Ship:
The USS Yorktown is constructed of steel. No running or horseplay at any time. You can fall and sustain serious injury. Please walk everywhere you go while on the ships and pier.
●  There is a fence surrounding the Flight Deck. It is to keep visitors off catwalks. Catwalks are 65 feet above the water and at high tide there is only four feet of water on the Starboard side of the ship. No one is allowed on the catwalks.
●  Do not play on, climb on or crawl under any plane. They are historic artifacts and must be treated with care.
●  Youth sailors are not allowed to go anywhere by themselves. You may use the buddy system, but adults and chaperones must know where you are at all times.

Need to Know:
●  Events: there may be events on the ship during your stay. Please do not enter the marked-off areas and be mindful of those around you.
●  Arrival: please make sure your entire group arrives at the same time (1:30 pm). Your group must check in together, as one group.
●  Parking: park in the grassy lot adjacent to the main parking lot. Gather your gear and report to the Public Safety guard at the pier when it’s time to board. (See Map Below)
●  Forms: A Patriots Point Health Form is required and should be turned in to the committee chairs.
●  Berthing/Sleeping Areas: you will be assigned a section of bunks in shared berthing areas on the ship. Please be respectful of the ship and leave it in the same manner you found it. Males and females are not permitted to enter each other’s sleeping areas. Food is also not permitted in the sleeping compartments. Please utilize the provided pantry area and refrigerators.
●  Wristbands – upon arrival, you will receive a wristband that identifies you as an overnight guest and allows you to remain on board for the duration of your stay. Show your wristband to get a discount in the Ship’s Store! Wristbands must be worn at all times.
●  Everyone in your group is responsible for knowing and understanding this information upon arrival.

Schedule of Events:
  • The Live Like a Sailor Guided tour leaves from in front of the theater at 3 PM. It is a two-hour guided tour focusing on what it was like to live and work as a sailor in World War II. At the end of the tour, you can stroll and browse the museum up until closing at 5:00 PM if you wish.
  • The museum closes at 5:00 PM. At this point, the flight deck, bridges, Viet Nam Support Base, and the USS Laffey are closed. You have continued access to the hanger bay and the three below-deck tours for the evening.
  • 5:00 pm – Dinner at the Chief Petty Officer’s Mess Hall
  • 8:15 pm – We will be recalled to the berthing areas to prepare for a fire drill.  The mandatory fire drill will occur at 8:30 pm Once the alarm sounds you will proceed from your berthing area down the ladders to the meeting point (discussed in the safety briefing).  Each group head is responsible for signing for the others in the group. This is required by the state fire marshal.  If you do not participate in the drill you will not be able to stay aboard the ship.
  • 8:45 pm – We are released to tour the open areas of the ship to do the scavenger hunt or watch the movie in the Smokey Stover Theater.
  • 10:30 pm – Recalled to Berth to prepare for Bed. Lights out and taps occur at 11:00 PM
  • 6:45 am – Reveille will be played to awaken you like a sailor.
  • 7:00 am – Coffee in the hanger bay for the adults
  • 7:15 am – Breakfast in the Chief Petty Officer’s mess hall.
  • 8:15 – Remove your belongings from the berthing areas by 8:45 am
You may stay and explore until 5:00 PM on Sunday to explore the Flight Deck, Bridges, Viet Nam Support Base and the USS Liffey.
